Leslie Zeek - 1st Grade

What is your background?
I graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. My degree is Elementary Education with a minor in English and Literature. I am also certified as a Dyslexia screener from the Susan Barton program. I am a Colorado State Licensed teacher.

Tell us about your family?

Although I was born in Columbia, South Carolina, I was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. Go Bengals! I have been married to my husband, Eric, for 26 years. We have 2 amazing children-Eli (24 years old) and Anna (23 years old). We also have a chocolate cocker spaniel named Bo and a white Bengal cat named Callie.

What is something people don’t know about you?
Eric and I were married at an airport (We met at a balloonfest there.) and we had a football themed reception. Our marriage was blessed in 2004 when I became Catholic.

What do you love about teaching?
I enjoy making a difference in someone’s life and also watching him/her grow throughout the school year. I am blessed to inspire, to support, to mentor, and to teach our Catholic faith and other Common Core subjects. Our students “Know a lot about a lot!”

What do you love most about Ave Maria?
I am able to teach at a school where our faith is at the forefront. We are able to celebrate weekly mass and have daily prayers. Ave Maria has a strong sense of community (family) that permeates throughout not only the school building; but throughout all of our school families. We have rigorous academics and we push our students to excel to the best of their abilities.

What is your favorite part of the school day?
I enjoy having the end of the school day wrap-up meetings with my students in which each student is able to share with our class family his/her favorite part of their school day or something he/she learned. By doing this, I am able to gauge how my teaching and how my lessons went. We end each day with a student led prayer, which allows us to continue to grow and to share in our faith.

I enjoy traveling, reading, and being outside. I am a HUGE football fan and enjoy watching and attending games.

Mrs. Zeek’s FUN FACTS!
1) Pretzels are my favorite snack.
2) Orange is my favorite color.
3) My favorite band is U2.
4) My favorite children’s book is “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein (I cry every time I read it.)
5) I believe that if I were not a teacher, that I would be a Nascar driver!
