Melissa Cleary-Simmons - 2nd Grade

What is your background?
I have been teaching at Ave Maria for 16 years. I hold a Bachelor degree and teaching license for K-6th grades. I also have a Masters Degree in Reading and Writing. I am a Colorado State Licensed teacher.

Where are you from?
I am a native of Colorado!  Yipee  I love it here.

Tell us about your family?
I am very close to my family and I am blessed to have my three children attend Ave Maria Catholic School.

What do you like to do in your free time?
Spend time with my kids, traveling, Disney (all things), watching the Denver Bronco and Colorado Rockies and reading with my kids.

What is your favorite part of your school day?
The morning when the kids walk in with huge smiles and are just so excited to be there and wonder, what fun are we going to have that day.

Why do you choose to teach at Ave Maria?
I love the Catholic aspect and the loving community/environment.

What do you love teaching second graders?
I love writing time because I get to hear the creativity and imagination from each child. You can learn so much about a child listening to their stories. I love it!

What do you love most about Ave Maria?
Everyone wants to be here and chooses to be here. The teachers, the children, the parents work together and create an amazing community.

What is one thing you love about your job?
I love when I get emails from past students saying hi and saying thank you for being my teacher way back when and then tell me what they are up to.
