Ave Maria Catholic School Flag Pole Ceremony 2020
August 13, 2020
Ave Maria Catholic School celebrates the new school year with the beloved tradition of our Flag Pole Ceremony.
"Every year we celebrate our return to school with the raising of the flag. It's a tradition dear to us all and means even more as we enter this school year," said Mrs. Skoog, Principal at Ave Maria Catholic School. Due to restrictions and ongoing concerns with the virus, the event was thoroughly reviewed and necessary changes were made to accommodate social distancing requirements. This year, the event was held in two separate ceremonies to ensure grades were appropriately distanced from one another and the parking lot closed to vehicles to ensure safety. Students spread out along the front entry, and out into the lot and playground surrounding the flag pole.
AMCS Principal, Mrs. Skoog began the address with Father Nathaniel Hinds giving the blessing. The Boy Scouts also assisted with the ceremony in raising the flag. "It was emotional," recounted one parent watching from the parking lot, "with everything our community has endured with the virus, it was an amazing scene to watch." Many families remarked on how thankful and blessed they felt to know that in spite of a hard year, their children were returning to school. "We know this community cares about each other. We've seen just how hard our teachers, staff and families fought to make sure we could return to school."
